Advocating for Women and Girls Globally and Locally is the theme of this year’s UN Women US National Committee Annual Conference, scheduled for June 21 and 22 at the Le Meridien Hotel in Arlington, VA. The conference provides an opportunity to meet with members, network with other organizations working in the area of women’s equality, and expand our skills in advocacy.
The conference will open Friday night with speaker Neil Irvin, Executive Director, Men Can Stop Rape, who will address the importance of men’s involvement in advocacy for women. On Saturday, Lopa Banerjee, Chief, Civil Society Section of UN Women, will open the conference with remarks about the unfinished business of achieving the global gender equality agenda. Eleanor Smeal, President, Feminist Majority Foundation, and former President, National Organization for Women, will deliver the afternoon keynote with a talk about advocacy on the national and state levels. Other highlights for Saturday include two powerful panels discussing best practices for advocating at the local and national levels.
